The
Australian cricket team capped off an amazing run with their third straight
Cricket World Cup title at Kensing
ton
Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. Australia were clearly the favorite from
beginning to end, and defeated runner-up Sri Lanka in a rain-shortened match
by 53 runs. Co-captain Andrew Gilchrist was the hero for Australia, as he
tallied 149 for the Aussies, and reaching his century in 72 balls. “He’s a
brilliant batsman and today he batted really well.” commented Sri Lanka
player Mahela Jayawardene. Australia, led by coach John Buchanan, truly
proved that they are a world cricket dynasty and the team to beat for years
to come. Australia has not lost a Cricket World Cup match since 1999, an
amazing streak of 29 in a row.
