Michelle
Wie: Could You Please Win One?
By Jake Bailey, TheSportsStand.com (7/1/07)
After watching Michelle Wie wimp out
of another tournament, I feel that something must be said. For anyone
who has been missing the story over the past few years, Wie has been trying
to play in the PGA. It would be an amazing story to see a female make
it into
the PGA, but to be honest, Wie, her overbearing parents, and Nike are
looking too far into the future.
Wie has been trying and trying to qualify for a PGA event. The fact of the matter is, has she won a LPGA event yet? No. I am one who believes that you should at least win one in your own league before advancing to another. She may not realize this, but she is really disrespecting the great women players of the LPGA by doing this. Sure she's got talent and potential, but results are what matter. I respect her trying to get into the PGA, but focus on winning a LPGA tournament.
She recently quit a tournament saying that her wrist "hurt". I'd just like to point out the fact that she quit before she went over the limit of 88 strokes. If she did, she wouldn't be able to play for the rest of the year. Coincidence? I think not.
At this rate, Wie, who had so much hype, talent, and potential, will no longer be heard from.
