Tank
Johnson: Out of Firepower, Released
By Andrew McCarten, TheSportsStand.com (6/1/07)
The infamous Tank Johnson, a staple at DT for the Bears, was released by the team today due to his habit of getting in trouble off the field.
After being
suspended for the first 8 games of t
he
upcoming NFL season due to violation of his probation relating to a firearm
charge, for which he spent two months in jail, his final act was the final
straw for the Bears organization. He was apprehended by police just outside
of Phoenix for going 40 mph in a 25 mph zone. The arresting officer had
reason to believe Johnson was impaired, and brought him to the station where
he submitted to having a blood test. Bears Gm Jerry Angelo described the
situation by saying, “"He compromised the credibility of our organization.
We made it clear to him that he had no room for error. Our goal was to help
someone through a difficult period in his life, but the effort needs to come
from both sides. It didn't, and we have decided to move on." No one knows
what lies ahead for Johnson, but I have a feeling the Bengals would be a
good fit.
