The
N
ew York Knicks leading scorer Eddie Curry was left off of the 2007 Eastern
All-Star team. “It was very disappointing,” said Curry. “But it is only going to
make me play harder.” said Curry in a statement to ESPN. Curry, who averages
19.6 points a game and 7.0 rebounds per game, has proved to be a pivotal point
in the Knicks early season contention in the lowly East. Curry may have a
legitimate gripe here; the starting center for the East is Miami Heat center
Shaquille O'Neal.
O’Neal who is having a sub par year
due to injuries averages 13.5 point a game
which well below the standards of Curry. Curry also has the upper hand in
rebounding as well. Meanwhile Shaq averages around 5.8 rebounds a game to
Curry’s 7. Some of his teammates stand behind Curry saying he was robbed. Nate
Robinson one of the few teammates to openly speak about this. “He was the best
center in the East in the first half of the season; he deserves a spot on that
team. Take nothing away from Shaq, he is a great player, but he has hardly
played all year. Come on does that make any sense to you?” Shaq who only played
in 5 games for the heat prior to the All-Star break still believes he earned a
spot on the tem and has no regrets about it. Eddie Curry said he will move
forward from this and use this to motivate him for the rest of the season. Other
notable players not appearing this weekend are Ben Gordon, Ray Allen, Michael
Redd, and Zach Randolph.
