Rookie Sophomore Challenge- the sophomores routed the rookies,
155-114. The game’s high man wa
s
New York Knicks forward David Lee. Lee was perfect shooting the basketball,
finishing the game 14 of 14 with 30 points and 11 rebounds and took home MVP
honors. Chris Paul of the Hornets had some records of his own; he had a
rookie game record of 17 assists and 9 steals to along with 16 points. Other
notables on the rookie side were Rudy Gay and Paul Millsap who dropped 22
points apiece.
Skills Challenge- Miami Heat Guard
Dwayne Wade successfully defended his skills title. Wade posted a final round
score of 24.6 seconds. Behind Wade was Lakers guard Kobe Bryant with a time of
29.8. The other two competitors who were eliminated in the opening round were
the Cavs Lebron James, who finished finished with a time of 35.4 and Chris Paul
of the Hornets finished with a time of 39.9. When Wade was interviewed after the
event he said with a smile “Just some hardware to go with that NBA title.” Wade
will also compete in tonight’s All-Star game at 8:30 on TNT.
3-point shootout- Jason Kapono took
home the three point shoot out title last night in Las Vegas. Kapono tied Mark
Price’s final round record with 24 points. In the early round Gilbert Arenas
took the early lead with first round high of 23 and had 17 in the finals.
Defending champion Dirk Nowitzki had 20 point in the opening round but a dismal
9 points in the finals. Although Kapono narrowly made the finals with a first
round score of 19. The 3 competitors who made an early exit were mike miller who
dropped 18 Damon Jones who had 15 and Jason Terry who had 10. Kapono who had
been campaigning just to be invited to the Three Point Shoot Out said after the
event he said, “I am just happy I got th
e opportunity and I am glad I
represented the Heat well”.
Slam Dunk Contest- Boston Gerald Green
took home the Sprite Slam Dunk contest last night. Green who had 3 amazing dunks
concluded the evening with a prefect 50 and he leaped over a table into a
windmill. He dethroned defending champion Nate Robinson
Nate was a good sport
letting Green jump over him in his second dunk attempt. Other notables from the
dunk contest were Dwight Howard finished with an 85 and Tryus Thomas of the
Bulls finished with an 80. All in all, it's been a great weekend.
The weekend ended with the All-Star Game. The West beat the East 153-132. Kobe Bryant won the MVP with 31 points, a game-high.
