Craig Biggio Reaches 3000 Hit Milestone
By Andrew McCarten, TheSportsStand.com (7/6/07)

It may have taken a while (19 years in the MLB), but Astros stalwart Craig Biggio has reached 3,000 hits, a mark only 26 other players can claim to have. In a career in which he has played catcher, second base, outfield and back to second base, Biggio has proved to fans everywhere how the game is supposed to be played. Never has he been in a steroid controversy, like so many in his generation, but instead gets press for his hustle and charisma on the field. Biggio is a 7 time All-Star, 4 time Gold Glover and also olds the odd distinction of being 2nd all time on the list of hit batsmen. As he neared the record, the Astros only played Biggio in home games so he could break the record in front of the only fans he has known his entire career. This accolade is well deserved, and I and many other baseball fans hope to see Biggio continue playing into his old age.
